Elyse Bouvier - What I love about the prairies

May 29, 2012

While we're in the same place for the next few months we've invited guests to contribute to There & Here by telling us what they love about their favourite place in the world. Our guest this week is Elyse from Calgary, who is currently living in London.

Elyse Bouvier - Prairies What I love about the prairies is the emotion the light creates in the open space.

There's something nostalgic in the farm fields, the sky bigger than you. I love the way you feel so insignificant and so connected to miles and miles. I love getting in my car and looking so far ahead and just driving. There isn't much land compared to the sky and there isn't much sky compared to the light. The mood can change in an instant as the weather changes or the sun moves across the sky or a solitary cloud finds itself right in front of you. Something magical happens on the prairies. There's an essence of life there, a determination to always grow, and a continuous melody with changing keys. I guess the prairies inspire me to do all those things too.
